No matter what you do, the travel bug never really goes away.
After spending most of their lives roaming the globe, Fiona and Nyani have spent the last ten years attempting to stay in one place - Perth, Western Australia. Admittedly, they lived in five different houses during this time, but on the whole they succeeded.
A short trip to the US and Canada, mid-2008, however, started them thinking maybe ten years was long enough. Neither can remember who first asked ‘Why don’t we spend a year in North America?’ but both knew from the outset it was a damn fine idea.
This (ad)venture has all the hallmarks of a typical Leonard/ Quarmyne escapade:
• A great idea: "Let’s travel around America and chronicle the first year of the Obama presidency";
• Lots of planning: "Let’s leave in seven weeks";
• A few easily overcome logistical issues: "Let’s sell the house, and home school the kid";
• A detailed itinerary: "Hawaii in January 'cause it’s warm, April in New Orleans for the Jazz Festival, New England in Autumn and the rest of the country in between”; and
• Occasional domestic conflict: Teya - "I want to see snow!" Nyani - "What do you mean it might be snowing in Colorado in March???"
Through this site you can watch the year in America unfold via the blog and photo pages and, just for fun, see if you can work out, before they do, what comes next…?
